Our consultants have diverse backgrounds--university president, health system VP, executive coach to Fortune 500 companies--but are united by a passion for doing exceptional work. 


Founder and Principal

Jennifer Mason helps leaders develop strategy, manage change, and engage and communicate with stakeholders. Her clients span higher education institutions, technology companies, professional associations, international development organizations, foundations, and other change-making organizations. 


Current and recent clients include Johns Hopkins University, the National Institute of Health, the American Council on Education, the World Bank Education Group, the AARP, Amazon Web Services, and the Sloan Foundation.


Prior to launching JMC, Dr. Mason directed strategic research, growth strategy, and content and marketing strategy at the Advisory Board Company and its education sector subsidiary, EAB. Her work included helping colleges and universities across the US improve student success, increase faculty diversity, develop internal leadership talent, expand online education, and launch degree and certificate programs for working adults.


Earlier in her career, Dr. Mason held faculty positions at Skidmore College and Southern Methodist University and was an Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at UCLA. She holds a PhD in English from the University of Texas at Austin and an undergraduate degree from Smith College.


Dr. Mason is the author of multiple books on advancing change in postsecondary institutions and a scholarly book on American literature published by Johns Hopkins University Press.

DAVID PERSHING, PHD

Consultant

David Pershing is the President Emeritus of the University of Utah, where he is currently a Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering. As President, he had overall responsibility for 32,000 students, 20,000 employees and an annual budget of $4 billion. His major presidential initiatives include increased emphasis on excellence in undergraduate education, improving retention and graduation rates, supporting new interdisciplinary research efforts, diversity and sustainability, growth of online education and the medical school class, and continued expansion of research and academic facilities.


As the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs (Provost), Dr. Pershing had overall responsibility for approximately 1,000 faculty and 25,000 students in the 11 colleges of the main campus. He also had responsibility for distance and continuing education, libraries and museums, budget and planning, student affairs, performing arts, and diversity enhancement. During his tenure, he hired 21 new deans, 10 Vice Presidents and supported many other faculty recruitments; increased ethnic and gender diversity by new, targeted programs; reorganized the budget model of the university to relate college budgets to student enrollments and quality; helped create a statewide economic development initiative (USTAR); helped attract more than 30 new physicians, scientists and engineers to help grow the high-technology base of the state; and worked collaboratively with Deans and Directors to raise over $600 million in new, public and private funds to support the construction of 14 new buildings. 


Dr. Pershing’s previous roles include Visiting Scientist at MIT’s Laboratory for Energy and the Environment and Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Utah. As a professor, he secured more than $80 million in external funding and authored more than 60 peer-reviewed journal publications.  He holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Arizona and BS in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University. 



NAILAH JINNAH, MBA

Consultant


Nailah Jinnah is an expert in health care strategy who specializes in helping organizations achieve sustainable growth and navigate unprecedented change. 


As a health system executive and consultant, Ms. Jinnah has led innovation at organizations across the healthcare ecosystem—including health systems, academic medical centers, large physician groups, community hospitals, technology companies, and associations. Her areas of expertise include achieving transformational mergers and partnerships, developing innovative consumer-focused programs, and leading geographic expansion.


Ms. Jinnah previously served as the Vice President for Strategy and Interim Chief Marketing and Communications Officer for Beaumont Health, a $4.5 B health system. At Beaumont she designed sustainable growth strategies including creating the largest network of urgent care centers in Michigan and launching new programs such as a new structural heart program and an Orthopedic and Sports Injury Clinic. As part of a core team of senior executives, Ms. Jinnah led the evaluation and pursuit of transformational partnerships resulting in the formation of the $13 B Corewell Health (formerly named Beaumont Health Spectrum Health). 


While at Navigant Consulting (now Guidehouse), Ms. Jinnah led engagements for major multi-hospital systems, academic medical centers, and community hospitals across the US, with a focus on increasing access to affordable care. Her projects included developing regional growth strategies by reintroducing services into rural markets, expanding telehealth services, implementing new physician alignment strategies, creating data-driven outpatient expansion strategies, and optimizing cardiovascular and orthopedic services.


Ms. Jinnah holds an MBA from Cornell University and an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from St. Andrews University in Scotland.



CHRISTINE BRITTON

Consultant

Christine Britton is an executive coach for organizations ranging from small growth companies to large multi-national firms. She has extensive experience conducting both individual and organization-wide 360 assessments to inform professional development, succession planning, executive placement, organizational design, and acquisition due diligence and integration.

 

Ms. Britton’s work is driven by a passion for helping leaders gain the insights and skills they need to grow professionally, navigate key inflection points, and build healthy organizations.
